Making the Jump:
Our Comfortable "Normal" Life
At the ages of 40 and 41 we took off on a “non-traditional” journey outside the norm. We knew that getting the IV salary drip from the the man was not living our best life. Since then we have hit well over 30 countries, sold all our stuff, purchased/sold a home in the Caribbean, lived in a 5th wheel, and embraced the gypsy lifestyle. It is now time to share our journey and offer our experience to others as a way to give back.

A big question is HOW? How did two Dakota kids from middle class working families figure out how to quit their successful jobs, sell a flourishing business, beautiful acreage, all their crap and buy a home on an island in the Caribbean?

The conversations we continue to have with our family and friends still sound something like this. How do you pay for traveling 7 months out of the year? Wasn’t it hard to get rid of ALL your stuff? Do you ever think you will have a house again? You are so young to be seasonally retired. Don’t you miss holidays at home? A backpack as your luggage for 7 months, really? Do you speak Spanish? We will be addressing all these questions and lots more based on what you want to hear about.

It is well past time to get this thing called “our life trip” documented. We sincerely want others to know that they can have the life they really want, not just the life they think they should have. It is a seriously short ride. Remember when you were a kid and you waited in line for what seemed like an eternity for the tilta whirl? (BTW, Brett did NOT stand in line for the tilta whirl, too scary) It finally is your turn, you get on and poof……it is over. This is how we look at the journey, so we make sure not to stand in too many lines or at least bring snacks to enjoy the experience.
This really is about getting specific steps, details and critical key point to help you enjoy life as much as we do. We really look at it all like that, a super fun challenge.
There was a time when we had a home base, actually a pretty nice one. We had dogs, chickens, fainting goats and hosts of other critters. Before jumping to Roatan this was our life. Do we ever look back? Absolutely not. Certainly the adventure life isn't always the easiest path, but once we closed that gate we only look forward to new ones.
Snowy South Dakota. This is really why we started to travel. It was the winters we wanted to escape.
