A Season Wrap Up
Wow, what a travel season. We call it our “summer” vacation but it is really winter for everyone else.
The 21-22 travel season started with a delayed 2020 Ryder Cup in 2021 in Sheboygan, WI and ended with a trip to watch the Bengals unbelievable post season run to the Super Bowl.
The only thing we knew about our 6 month travel destinations is that it would start at the Ryder Cup. It was an adventure we got to share with good friends and family. We had no idea where we would end up after that. We were antsy to get some international travel in since we had none (thank you COVID) the previous year.
This antsy-ness led excited Carmen, and me heel dragging on how to proceed. We ended up leaving our car in a storage shed on 8 mile road in Detroit, (We now understand the movie 8 mile) and booked an open ended trip to Costa Rica. Not being fully prepared for what was to come (thank you Covid) we got kicked out of Costa Rica because we had no proof of onward travel.
Licking our wound for a month in Pompano Beach FL, we regained our composure and confidence and set out tackle Costa Rica once again. As the season progressed we ventured to the less traveled of the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica and Panama. The highlight was spending 9 days on a sailboat in the secluded and pristine San Blas Islands of Panama.
This off beat travel I termed Nat Geo to Narco tour took more of a toll on me than Carmen so we took a little break and traveled to SD for Christmas, something we haven’t done in over 8 years. The very fun but cold the 3 weeks flew by and we were ready for warm weather again.
The last half of our adventure came down to what was going to be warm and easy.. We succeeded on getting cheap air fare and accommodations in Aruba. We loved Aruba, the climate and beaches and the do nothingness.
While we were in Aruba the Bengals started their post season run. First they beat the Raiders, then the Titans. Our decision was made, if the Bengals make the Super Bowl we would fly to LA and soak in the atmosphere. If if they lose we are headed to Spain. To our surprise and the rest of the NFL they beat the KC Chiefs and make it to the Super Bowl. Off to LA.
We were ticketless and clueless as to what NFL related activities we will be able to see or do. We ended up going to Disney Land, meeting and greeting Bengal fans, got invited to watch the Super Bowl at somebody’s house, and by the end of the night they sold us tickets to the Super Bowl.
With the loss and a win that almost was we ventured into the Baja California for some soul healing. A very calm peaceful ending to a travel season full of adventure, laughs, and new friends.
The next adventure begins with a flight back to Detroit to pick up our SAAB. Stay tuned.
