Cincinnati: Last Stop before crossing the Pond

Updated: Sep 30, 2022

September 10, 2022, the last USA hurrah before crossing the pond to Europe.

It was a thrilling packed weekend with our dear family, the Rembolds. The purpose was to get our nephew protege fan Pete to his first ever Bengals game. We certainly were not getting by JUST taking Pete--so a family weekend it was in the Queen City.

We rocked it all weekend, only stopping to sleep. We all flew from Sioux Falls to Cincinnati on a Friday and they returned to Dakota on Monday night and we parted ways and headed east to Boston, en route to our first adventure for the season. IRELAND.

Tal turned 8 while we were there. We found several other bday pals for her and we took photos with each of them. Her favorite was this Grandma who was celebrating her 93rd birthday at the Sugar and Spice diner.

Gideon and I went for a run on Friday night. We stopped to take a selfie in front of Paul Brown (now PayCor Stadium). We splurged staying right in the action in downtown Cincinnati.

It was an 80's version of a "Dave and Busters" holy cow, blast from the past fun. We spent endless hours in the 3 floors playing Packman, Tetris, Pinball, and Jega on the roof top. 16-Bit Bar+Arcade was like traveling through time. All the vintage games were free to play. We thought they may have to kick us out. Over the Rhine neighborhood in Cincinnati is eclectic and so much fun.

Bengal Jim Before the Roar Tailgate experience was a chart topper. Pete got some pretty cool autographs, and we got to spend some time with longtime quarterback Ken Anderson. Great music, local beer, skyline chili dogs, and about a thousand Bengal fans. The smile on Pete's face was worth the trip.

The football game on Sunday against the Pittsburg (blah....puke) Steelers was an overtime game that did not end in favor of the Black and Orange. There were no tears, thankfully. Pete is truly learning what it feels like to be a Bengals fan.

SO much fun and so many laughs. We are thankful and love our Freeman family so much. We always have endless smiles with my brother and sister-in-law. It is always a joy to vacation with them and it was even better to have the chance to travel with all the kids too. Until our next trip.........thanks Rembold clan.

I think Tal and Pete may have had over 20 Shirley Temple drinks when we ate out that weekend. Swimming at our 5th Floor outdoor/indoor pool was Tal's favorite bday event.

Sugar and Spice Diner was a hit.....we all cleaned our plates. The pancakes were rumored to be "better than Papa's"

Ahh---Sherry and Tal in Fountain Square. Naughty GIDEON photo bombed the background! Chad may have had something to do with it??

Next stop..........Ireland.
