Mussels in Brussels: Dirty City Vibes

Also Waffles, Fries, and lots of Beer

RREEEEEwind......this was supposed to be our original stop on our month-long Europe tour but the country of Belgium had other plans for us. We made it back tho, just in time for lots of unhealthy food pleasures fun touring totally on foot. We thought the city overall was pretty grungy and had a dirty vibe. It could have been that it was just off of the national strike, we aren't sure. We respectively drank and ate our way through the city and enjoyed our 2-day run.

Why the heck is Brussels as the aspiration to travel Europe?

Well Duh, BEER oh, and Fries, and Waffles, and Chocolate and Mussels oh my!

How can one go wrong when words like beer, fries, waffles, and chocolate are all used to describe the origins of this lovely country? Who is not to fall in love with these things unless you are from mars.

Yes, when in Belgium drink like them. There were so many pubs, so many types of beers and a lot of them very, very yummy.

We liked these small stools and barrel tables they were just our size.

Comic Strip walls were everywhere. It is the birthplace o iconic comic strips like the Smurfs and Tintin.

We walked and took in all of it. We ate snacks and beers as we went. This stop actually gets a little fuzzy quite honestly.

Ya know it is a quirky place where they are famous for the 3 "Pis" Statues. Yes, we found them. They are tiny, and in little corners of the city that you certainly will miss if you aren't looking.

Mer de Nord: Stand Up Sea Food

We stood in long lines for local sea food at Mer de Nord. Hot soup, beer, mussels and some questionable items we took a chance on.

When you got your chow you stood up at tall tables in a square, no seating just stand and chat with your neighbors.

It was a very social place, we met lots of unique people, locals and travelers alike just hanging out and taking in the sighs of Brussels.

Show stopper-Sunday Midi Market.

It has the reputation of being one of the largest markets in Europe after the Ventimiglia in the Italian Riveria.

We are glad we did our homework and figured out how to get to this once-a-week gem of a market. There were so many tasty treats and hidden treasures to check out. What a surprise way to spend a Sunday morning.

It wasn't just Belgian stalls that won the most interesting award. There were African, Mediterranean, and other European-inspired vendors.

The reason we went was for the Moroccan pancakes and olive breakfast crapes that were beyond scrumptious.

So, after I read my highlights, I guess this location was about THE FOOD. So much fun to be had (other than beer) in this energetic European city. Thanks, Brussels, we loved the time you gave us. It is time to keep zipping on our f - - - the lines Europe tour.
