Wellness & Heavenly Retreat

Heal your mind......and your body will follow. I love it. Valentines Day 2022, and a Super Bowl Hangover. After what could have been in LA, we booked a 5 day Ayurvedic retreat at Rukhsana's Retreat above in the hills of San Jose del Cabo

http://retreatcabo.com It felt like a fusion of Indian and Mexican at the heavenly retreat.

Transfer day is always fun, sometimes stressful and always adventurous. After landing I decided we would take the public bus to our retreat center versus a private transfer. (Brett loves public buses)

We were the only non-locals on the Spanish speaking bus. This is not a problem, but this particular bus system is a stop and yell if you want on and off. Oh, and don't wait too long because the driver doesn't.

Brett was so intent on finding our landmark where we were told to get off (mind you there are no regular stops) he hollered and took off with his backpack, leaving me in the seat with our two small back packs, and my extra bags from LA, (crap from the land of stuff) I fumbled, tried to get them all, he realized he was leaving me on the bus and he came back. The driver took off, the Mexicans yelled, I went flying into someone kind that helped me up, Brett finally grabbed the bags and we exited as they all laughed hysterically at the fumbling gringos. Up the hill we walked for 3/4 mile......up up up hill.

We finally could see it wayyy up there.

Worth the walk. Heaven.

Mid hill, Brett had a Mexican Cerveza to power through

The Chopra Center was fantastic it included meditation, yoga and breakfast for both of us. After the Superbowl experience and the high energy, inflated costs, effort and emotion we experienced we were ready for a solitude retreat and this hit the mark. Our personal journeys which include meditation and yoga has been a game changer for both of us.

We loved watching the full moon rise and the sun set at the same time at our mountain top retreat.

WHALE WATCHING in Cabo--Bonus

December until about April, thousands of whales migrate from their arctic feeding grounds to Mexico’s Baja Peninsula to mate and give birth. This is why a lot of people come to this area this time of year. It was a bonus for the PMA. We quickly learned that this is one of the best places in the world to see whales.

Walking to the dramatic costal beach down the hill and across the street was a fantastic afternoon pastime. It was whale migration season, and wow did they put on a show. We watched for hours and hours, whale after whale. Brett said next to the Space X Launch in Florida, this might be one of his favorite activities he ever caught on the ocean.

We were about a mile up from the ocean and could see them jumping and splashing from up top, amazing how flippin' huge they are. Once we walked down to this beach they were only 200 yards off the beach jumping. This was a true joy.

The Baja of California separates the Pacific Ocean (burr cold) from the Gulf of California. It is separated from mainland Mexico by the Gulf of Calif.

So What about These Towns?

Los Cabos/ San Jose del Cabo and the Corridor

I was kind of confused as to where we actually were at. We didn't do a lot outside of the retreat center, but this is the skinny on the area.

  • Cabo San Lucas is at the southern tip, a party fun loving town. An American "good time" vibe. Your average "week in Cabo" party time player will most likely stay here. Basically an extension of the US.

  • San Jose has less tequila shooting and more of an arts district, historic architecture and culture. The streets roll up when the sun goes down.

  • The Corridor is actually the area where we stayed. It is the string of really spectacular coves and beaches. Lots of super high dollar luxury resorts (not the pink drink pool resort type, we are talking 40 grand for the week) Our retreat was in the hills above all these resorts.

It has been a very long time since we were in Mexico. This was our first trip to the Baja and we didn't really do any homework prior to arrival. We thought we would take advantage of a cheep $50 USD flight and quick trip since we were in LA.

Staying in the "Ritz" area really wasn't our plan and we didn't even realize it until we flew (literally) off the public bus which probably wasn't used to stopping there.

It was a super lux (for us) 5 days of pure yoga and meditation. Our Chakras definitely got alined and we quickly fell into reading, chilling and a calm buddhist tempo and flow. There wasn't very good internet which was a nice break from being plugged in. Mucho Gracias, we loved our stay and look forward to continuing the journey.

The adventure continues where we head a bit north to La Paz, Baja California Sur which is the capitol of the Baja. I am looking to book another Bus ticket........Brett is opting for the Uber ride. We will see which direction we go?
