(Post from May 2023)
What was the overall experience? Will we do it again?
Oh man, what a fantastic time we have had these past 8 months house/pet sitting on 3 continents across the globe. Was it all pretty picture-perfect? Well---yes, almost all of it. Always a few glitches like getting robbed in Africa, an animal dying while in our care, and a hefty speeding ticket in Australia, but aside from those incidents we can honestly say it was a pretty seamless adventure.
After selling the Take Out and Catering in August 2022, we knew we wanted to take at least 9 months to experience the globe. We were testing out a new way of travel, and figuring out what was next for us. We learned about 8 years back that now is the time to do the fun shit, and there is a way for it no matter what you think your restraints may be. A lot of times the restraints are only set by you and your ego mind which keeps you from experiencing a truly gifted life. This is not just woo-woo talk, if you allow and want things to change and happen in your life you really can.

What Is Next for the Pack Mule Gypsies?
While in Africa, we had plenty of time to talk about what our summer would look like now that we had no obligation to go back to South Dakota. Like we always do, we tossed around a lot of ideas but kept coming back to the fact that the formula for traveling more and working less is indeed an appealing schedule for us. We knew that work of some sort was on our horizon to keep some balance in our life.
We are always looking for new experiences, developing new skills, and keeping possibilities open for the next thing we might be interested in. It has been a long time since we have both had jobs independent of each other, and we know those days are far behind us. We were looking for something not too permanent that would give us some new skills, offer us somewhat of a break from travel, and allow us to live in a place new to us. We thought that would be a seasonal job somewhere, but when we started digging into the opportunity to live and move to the Rocky Mountains in Southwest Colorado, we had to jump.
Hospitality is a pretty natural skill for us, so running a small Inn, seems like a pretty perfect fit for us as we take a reset. Christian and Kaytie, the owners of the Ouray Inn, in Ouray Colorado also felt we were the perfect fit and agreed to wait for us to complete our housesitting obligations before making the move.
