Costa Rica? NO Costa Rica
At the airport on the wrong side of the customs glass is as far as we made it on our first attempt to explore Costa Rica.
After arriving in CR at the dreaded customs agent he said we had a “very big problem” without an onward travel ticket. We are not rookies, we have done this lots of times in some of the 30 plus countries we have visited. We were prepared and swiftly pulled out a ticket on our phone to book onward, but they had other plans for us.
Our passports were confiscated we were forced to sign papers in Spanish, assigned two agent guards and we were carted off with another Cowboy who also made the same error.
We (and the Cowboy) spent 13 hours in confinement with the agents assigned to us until a return trip to Fort Lauderdale was ready to depart. Without the escort of our guards, we were not allowed bathroom or food. All the cowboy wanted was a cigarette and to go back to Texas. The airport speaker recording teased and nearly made us crazy with sounds of howler monkeys and birds for 13 hours. After 12 midnight we finally were escorted to boarding. We got priority boarding and great seats at the expense of Spirit airlines who by CR government was at fault for allowing us to board without a return. Once buckled in they handed us our passports and told we could return again tomorrow. (with a return ticket) Remember, we are relentless so this story obviously continues.
